MACCABI VICTORIA AGM 2016

Over 60 people, including Maccabi Victoria club representatives, Hall of Fame Members, Life Members, Board and Foundation members, attended the 2016 Maccabi Victoria AGM held on Tuesday 23 August at the Caulfield Park Lawn Bowls Club.

Retiring President, Joe Dorfman, gave his final president’s report in what was a gracious summary of his involvement and love for Maccabi Victoria. Joe sat on the MV board for 10 years, with his past four as President. Joe acknowledged some of MV’s programs including the All Abilities group, the Henry Jolson Pathways Program, the Club Development Grants Program, the smartphone app and Youth Leadership program.

Election of Officers - Brian Swersky was elected as the new President of Maccabi Victoria and Danielle Davies and Dean Mohr were elected as Board members. Tony Aarons (Vice President), Ashley Browne (Board Member) and Sam Strunin (Board Member) were each elected for a further 2 year term.

Janine Baum (Board Member), Glen Kanevsky (Treasurer), and Mark Waters (Board Member) remain on the Board for the second of their two year terms. Joe Dorfman will remain on the Board as Immediate Past President.

Michael Sharp was re-appointed as Honorary Solicitor.

Joe introduced the new President, Brian Swersky, who thanked Joe for “the ” noting “Joe has left the club in a great position. Maccabi is a far better organisation because of Joe.” Joe was awarded with a plaque and the Caulfield District Volunteer Award for his outstanding contributions to Maccabi Victoria.

Brian’s speech also outlined some of the programs and issues the Maccabi Victoria Board will undertake and develop over the next few years.

Joe and Brian both thanked outgoing Board Member, Sharon Hamilton, for her incredible service and devotion to the board for 10 years. Sharon was instrumental in developing the All Abilities program and will remain a key part of the program.

Ian Davis was awarded Life Membership in recognition of his outstanding service to MV. Ian has been instrumental in the growth and development of MV’s profile. He has a long connection with Maccabi Victoria, first as a club member, then President of the organisation and, since 2003, has been Chairman of the Maccabi Victoria Sports Foundation.

Reports were given from Ian Davis (MVSF), Mark Klapish (Hall of Fame induction), Jeff Sher & Ellana Aarons (MAI), Nikki Burger (2017 Maccabiah) and a few items of General Business, and the 2016 AGM was over for another year.
