Our Story

From Humble Beginnings.......

It all started back in the summer of 2005 when a group of players came together to trial for the Australian Maccabiah Futsal Squad to compete in Israel in July 2005. Being relatively new to this form of the "beautiful game", the squad trained hard under the guidance of Zvi "Bomba" Ben David and David "Butch" Rutner, and took to the competition with great confidence, hoping to surprise the other countries. Unfortunately things weren't to be and the team failed to make it past the group stages.........

However, all was not lost.......

On return to Sydney instead of parting ways and leaving it there, the team decided there was a lot more left to achieve and stuck together entering into the NSW Premier League playing under a club in the western suburbs of Sydney as the Mens team. Once again most results didn't go their way and they quickly learnt that there was so much more Futsal had to offer. On the back of the first season the team never gave up, and trained harder in the off season to return to the NSW Super League as a major force to be reckoned with.

The Second Season.........

Still playing under the western suburbs club banner, the team thrived in its second season, surprising many of their competitors and missing out on a minor premiership by just two points on the final day of the season. This great season gave the team its first birth in a final series. With the tenacity shown throughout their short history, the team took the final series by the scruff of its neck winning the minor semi final and then beating the Minor Premiers in the Major semi final giving them a shot at the title in the Grand Final. Leading the Grand Final at half time 2 - 0 the team through lack of experience lost there cool and were defeated 5 - 2.

Once again, in the face of defeat the team decided it was time to move to the next level.........

As a proud group of players, now dedicated to this great game of Futsal, having shared so much in such a short period, it was decided to share there experience, dedication and passion with the community that had given all of them their start in football............... MACCABI ................

In the winter of 2007, the Maccabi Futsal Club was born.

Our ethos is to bring together both forms of the game, to help grow the sport and improve the position of Maccabi Clubs throughout the community.
