Overview

Northside Maccabi Basketball Club was formed officially in 2002 and is part of Maccabi New South Wales Inc. The Club operates all year round and offers basketball teams for Miniballers (under 13s), Juniors Boys and Girls (under 18s), and Open Division Men and Women.

Teams are entered in competitions organised by Northern Suburbs Basketball Association (NSBA), with games being played at North Sydney Indoor Sports Centre, located at the corner of Oxley St and Pole Lane Crows Nest (commonly called 'The Rooftop' courts).  Northside Maccabi Basketball also enters teams in competitions organised by Hornsby Kuringai Basketball Association (HKBA), 1A Dartford Rd Thornleigh (commonly known as 'The Brickpit').

The goal of the Northside Maccabi Basketball Club is to provide a meeting place for Jewish athletes of all ages who want to learn and improve their basketball skills. Training is provided by experienced inhouse players from the Club in order to facilitate growth as well as team comraderie. Emphasis is placed on playing basketball 'the right way' as a team. The club also serves as a fun and enjoyable way of meeting and competing with other Jewish players.

All teams participating in competitions have scheduled weekly training sessions, and the club also encourages non-playing members wishing to attend.

History

Since its 2001 inception, the Club has won an U17s competition, the Men's team were runners up in 2004/05 and the Miniballers and Juniors have made the semi finals and final on several occasions. Several players have played in the NSBA representative teams too. 2006 saw the Sunday U16 Mens team finish in 2nd place whilst the Yr 7/8 Girls were placed 4th making it to the preliminary Final.

In the NSBA U17 Mens Season 1 2007 competition, the team finished as the runner up whilst in Season 2 2007 the Year 9/10 Girls won their competition at HKBA.

During 2008 Season 1, the Year 9/10 Girls won the competition at HKBA, logging the first undefeated season in the history of Northside Maccabi Basketball Club.
The Senior teams have expanded and stood strong for many seasons with the need for juniors becoming a greater goal for NMBC.
