Maccabi WA 2014 Sports Awards

Maccabi WA held the AGM for 2014 and Sports Awards ceremony. Mr Barry Smorgan OAM President of Maccabi Australia flew in to present these prestigious awards:

 Maya Rahamim Outstanding effort and good sportsmanship throughout 2014.  Player of the day in several games.

Gabriela Salant Outstanding skill and good sportsmanship throughout 2014.  Player of the day in most games played at the Ballajura Indoor Netball Courts.

 Ethel Finkelstein Rising Star Award-  Jake Range

 Jake was chosen as State Schoolboys Football (Soccer) Under 12 Western Australian goalkeeper and played in Bendigo Victoria Sept 2014

He was Goalkeeper for Subiaco FC U12 who won the Cup in 2014

In 2014 in Perth Glory goalkeeper training squad then chosen as goalkeeper for Perth Glory youth team in U14 league for 2015. He previously played soccer for Maccabi until the National Premier League elite tournament began in 2014 when he went to Subiaco FC as U12 goalkeeper and they won the Cup in their first year together.

 Jake also trained as part of the Perth Glory goalkeeping youth squad and this year has been named as goalkeeper for the Perth Glory U14 NPL team for 2015.

 Athletics: Jake has always excelled in athletics attending Little Athletics for the past 3 years. He took out Club Champion (Dianella) and Centre Champion (Inglewood) in his first year as an U11 He was also Year 6 boy athletics champion 2014 Carmel Primary School and Champion Junior Athlete 2014 Carmel Primary School

 Justin Sandler Memorial Awards for Junior Carnival 2015 for participation, good sportsmanship and fair play - Tsur Tsaban and  Zahra Uzzi

 Joe Rosen Most Outstanding Performance by an individual playing for Maccabi WA (Senior)    (Joint winners - two trophies)   -Julian Kesacoff   Football West :  Division 1 Fairest and Best and Maccabi Senior first team:  Player’s player

 Dion Berman Football West :  Division 1 Golden Boot Award (31 goals) and Maccabi Senior first team:  Top Goal Scorer  Fairest and Best and Captain for part of the season

 Special Maccabi WA award for excellence in 2014-  Eli Kitay - Masters swimming age 90 - 94 events

Born in South Africa on 15 January 1924, Eli, now 91 years of age has been a swimmer since his university days where he studied Engineering and represented his State in swimming. Fast forward to Eli’s late 40’s when he took up Road Running as a sport and for the next 30 years, competed in numerous 10km – 50 km road races and 5000m and 1000m track events. Upon immigrating to Perth in 2002 at the age of 77 (to join his son and family), Eli continued with road running for a few more years before switching back to swimming. After a short time, Eli was swimming again competitively, and has amassed an incredible number of State and National Masters Swimming records since then.

 In 2014 Eli broke the 200m 800m and 1500m Australian Masters freestyle records for the 90-94 age groups.  He also bagged 18 State records and an open-water age group championship.

INTERNATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS:  World Masters Squash Championships - Hong Kong Men 65+ Quarter finalist July 2014 (jointly seeded five)

 NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS: 9th Pan Pacific Masters Squash Championships, Gold Coast Men 65+ Gold medallist, November 2014
