Gala Auction raises funds for Maccabi Grounds

Posted: 18-Aug-2014 by Maccabi WA

Maccabi WA held a wonderful Gala Auction and Dinner Dance on the weekend with over 180 guests “Bidding and Booging” the night away!!!Over 100  items were generously donated for the silent auction and 41 main auction prizes, helped Maccabi raise much needed funds to upgrade the lighting at the Grounds.

Hotly contested items were the stunning Kailis Australian South Sea Pearl sets, a Don Bradman Signed photo, a beautiful weekend away at Stonebarn Lodge and Trufflerie in Pemberton, and a trip to the AFL ANZAC Day clash in Melbourne. A hilarious  human horse race featuring all of our Maccabi Executive saw Goal Shooter aka Shayna Slotar take the line, to a raucous applause from her parents table. The night finished with everyone taking to the dance floor to Boogie until closing.

Auctioneer Wayne Phipps and MC Russell Wolf kept the crowd entertained and our magnificent Maccabi Youth; Eliza Sharbanee, Gina Steinberg, Bec Zines, Daniel Fasser, Michael Cohen, Zak Fleisher-Sharbanee, Terence Kaplan and Jordan Osrin worked non stop behind the bar serving shleping and showing off all the items to buy. Well done to the Auction committee of Alan Shear, Joan Hillman, Ivan Weiner, Colin Rockman, Jonathan Silbert, Justine Sharbanee, Marc Adonis, Dood Adonis, Debbie Katz,  and Jeremy Raiter.

With so many supporters of Maccabi WA in attendance, it was fitting that  Alan Shear  proudly  presented the Outstanding Jewish Sportsperson of the Year to WA ironman Amos Gollach, who recently won the men’s 18-24 years at the 2013 GoPro IRONMAN World Championships in Hawaii. It was very exciting to have a few words from world champion Amos, and he and his family stayed to enjoy the night.

The wonderful turnout and generosity showed that there are many people who care about Maccabi and its future, and keeping all our facilities modern and in good working order for the whole community to enjoy. It was highlighted that Maccabi is not just a sporting organisation in WA, but is also central to the Perth Community, in many aspects of everyday life , as it units and binds the community,  through the land.
