Maccabi U11 North Green vs Subiaco Highlights

The Under 11 team this year plays in the North Green Division the second highest division in the U11 league. The club has been working over the past few years under the leadership of Mark Abro to develop the juniors to play in higher grades. Playing in higher leagues boosts the club attracting more players, sponsorship and lifting our profile in the soccer community.

So on April 14th the journey began for the boys who have played together for a number of years at Maccabi and for some at the EPS and now Mark Mark Abro football academy.

The match against Subiaco started slow for Maccabi who took a while to find their feet. It looked like not all the boys were in bed early the night before. An early goal put Maccabi down at 1-0 with the usual parental anxiety building.  Watching this team focus on passing rather than individual glory was pleasing and will be their strength. A few charges from the centres and hard running from the wingers lifted the spirit and the team started to fire up. Finally a goal from Maccabi after a beautiful run down the centre from Noam Harries levelled the scores at 1 All just before half time.

Coming back after the break saw Maccabi come out all fired up. To the credit of the coach all the players were shuffled continually into different positions throughout the match demonstrating their ability to play all over the field and adjust their skills to the position. The level of support the team were showing to each other started to pay off as Jarred Lee charged down the left side to belt a goal in just after half time.

Defense stepped up to the mark with some heart stopping moments as Maccabi found themselves under continual pressure from Subiaco who were attempting to even the scores before full time. While defense held their own a goal kick after play resumed following a stop for injury showed exactly why it takes time to learn the strategy of a soccer game. The goalie should have slowed the play down but instead the rush to kick the ball out lead him to kick the ball directly to Subiaco who replied in kind with a beautiful goal to level the game 30 seconds before full time.

Great work from both teams and coaches who worked hard to get teams ready for the first game of the season. See you at the next game. Video footage available at
