Welcoming Arthur back after a seven year layoff proved lucky for us . Playing a little energiser bunny who swung aggressively on both wings the result was unclear throughout the first hour with neither player able to get an advantage. This was vital as the crispness of shot started to return after all those years and he began to look solid . At 6-6 Arthur got the break and then had to serve it out which was not a sure thing and his serve had been up and down . But like the true champion he was he focused at the change of end and did something he had not done all day. Three massive first
serves with his opponent managing to just get his racquet on one of the three. It was all over. Fantastic effort to come back after so long and look as fit and hit the ball as cleanly.
Alan ground down a very steady opponent and had a minor concern when his opponent changed his game plan down 2-7 and won the next three games. Alan began to feel his tight hamstring and we were all relieved when Alan played a steady service game to close it out 8-5.
Steven played an older experienced player which could be a description of Steven too. Anyhow Steven was far to steady and never had any problems in winning comfortably 8-3
Adam played an older guy who simply worked the ball across the court with no pace. After being broken twice to go down 0-3 Adam was in control. Decided to play same slow ball stuff and opponent ran out of gas and the crown fell asleep.
Doubles steady from both pairs with Arthur and Alan looking sharp at the net.

Section 9 Maccabi 3-4-44 tied with St. Anthony’s 3-4-44
Joel Rabinov 2-8
Daniel Goodrich 5-8
Errol Dorfan 8-4
Josh Duieb 8-7
Joel/ Josh 4-6, 5-7
Daniel/ Errol 6-1, 6-3

After a weeks break, we were back ready to play at home against the unbeaten St. Anthony’s on an overcast day (with the sun making appearances at the end of each match.)
Joel played well in a high quality match, however consistent double faults meant holding serve was a major issue in a 2-8 loss.
Josh managed to get out to a 7-3 lead, however after failing to closed it out he managed to win it in a tiebreak, (8-7).
Errol played a leftie, forcing him to hit errors in a 8-4 performance.
Daniel gave his opponent too much of a head start (2-6) in an entertaining match with great shot making by both players in a 5-8 loss.
Joel and Josh started well in each set (1-3, 15-40 and 2-0) however ended up blowing the leads which would come back to haunt them in a 4-6, 5-7 loss.
Meanwhile Daniel and Errol played well in a 6-1, 6-3 win.
Overall: A draw (first one for us in 4 years). Disappointed that we couldn’t get the win. Personally, a tough one to cop, as I played better than what the scoreline suggested in both matches. But you can’t win matches by double faulting...
- Joel Rabinov

We got smashed.
It was great to welcome back Alan for his first game of the season. Big thanks to Ben for filling in again!
