Section 4 Maccabi 6-8-56 def Tennis World 0-0-23

Geoff Rosenberger 8-4

Ryan Sharp 8-1

Jamie Muscatel 8-6

Marcus Frajman 8-5

Rosenberger/Frajman 6-1 6-2

Sharp/Muscatel 6-3 6-1

A terrific win for the team, securing all six rubbers.  Very enjoyable playing at Albert Reserve.  Ryan S and Jamie went on first.  Sharpie looked well in control, attacking and defending the court well, on the way to a very nice win.  Jamie was made to work and although he was not happy with his performance, deserved the win.  We would love to have these two guys playing more regularly.  Marcus had some long rallies and held a service game at 4-4 with lots of deuces, which proved critical.  A special mention to Geoff, who has been very competitive at #1 all season but broke through for his first win of the season.  Geoff was challenged and overcame nerves to finish strongly and get some reward for his perseverance and consistency.
It was nice to go into the doubles with a 4-0 lead but we did not to stop there.  Pleasingly, both pairs performed well to complete the day, which was important after losses in the previous three weeks.

Section 6 Carmelite 3-5-51 def Maccabi 3-4-43

Steven Kleytman 4-8

Dean Steinberg 8-3

Adam Needleman 8-5

Darren Seymour 1-8

Needleman/Seymour 2-6 3-6

Kleytman/Steinberg 4-6 7-6 6-3

Playing the side that beat us 4-2 on our home courts was never going to be
easy on their courts. Missing our heroic no 1 in Brad for the first time
this season added additional  pressure.  Going for our seventh win in
succession did not happen but I feel that we could be proud of our team
effort. To win I knew we had to be 2-2 after singles ( last time we were 1-3
) . This was achieved thanks to another strong effort by Dean Steinberg at
no2. The doubles would decide the contest and overall their pairings were
slightly better and more experienced on their slippery en tous cas . A very
narrow loss on the day but Steven Kleytman and Dean Steinberg pulled off a
good doubles win to almost snatch victory.  Contented with todays
performance despite the loss. Carmelite made the finals in Section 5 last
year and lodged a complaint about being dropped to section 6. They are a
decent team.

Section 7 Monash Uni 5-6-57 def Maccabi 1-3-36
Alan Liebowitz          5-8
Zvi Schweitzer          7-8
Daniel Huggins (e)      1-8
Joel Rabinov (e)        3-8
Alan and Daniel         6-3, 1-6, 0-6 (Daniel retired hurt at 1-4 in the second set)
Zvi and Joel            6-4, 7-6

A huge game today, playing the fifth team, a win and we secure our spot in the four, a loss and we likely drop out of the four.
Unfortunately, another disappointing loss, our fourth in a row.  This means we have plummeted from top position to outside the four, and will now likely struggle to make finals as we still have matches against the top 3 teams.  This continues to be due to a lack of personnel rather than lack of ability.  I am confident our proper team would be very competitive, but we continue to struggle to field a team due to a combination of lack of player availability plus emergencies who had been organised being required to fill in for higher teams weakening our team meaning we struggle to be competitive.  Today only 2 players from our team (numbers 2 and 5) of seven were available.  This is putting excessive pressure on the players who are representing the team as they are required to play higher than nominated.
The players today did an admirable job, Alan and Zvi absolutely had their chances in the singles, both being unlucky to lose.  Emergencies Daniel and Joel were in many games.  Even though their scores were lopsided, many games went to deuce but they were just not able to take their chances.
In the doubles, Alan and Daniel were well on top, leading comfortably in the first set 5-0 before taking it 6-3.  Unfortunately at 1 all in the second set Daniel did his knee;  he tried to continue to play but after losing the next 3 games and going 1-4 down was clearly not able to continue.  In the other doubles Zvi and Joel played very well to secure the team’s one and only rubber for the day.
Here’s hoping we can field a competitive team next week.

Section 8 Maccabi 6-8-56 def Royal Ave 0-0-14

Ben Pollak 8-1

Daniel Goodrich 8-0

Nathan Rapoport 8-1

Daniel Vertes 8-7

Goodrich/Rapoport 6-2 6-1

Pollak/Vertes 6-2 6-1

Today was a pretty straightforward day, the team today was Ben, Daniel, Nathan and Daniel Vertes who was kind enough to fill in. We began with doubles and both pairs won very convincingly 6-2 6-1 in very similar matches.
Singles went similarly to doubles, Daniel was in control the whole match winning 8-0, Nathan also dominating his opponent and combined with his best serving output this season, he also won 8-0. Ben won 8-1 and Daniel V won in by far the most competitive and longest match of the day in a tiebreak, against an opponent who clearly shouldn’t have been their worst ranked player for their team.
Overall, very happy with the convincing win, and thankful for Daniel Vertes’ contribution, especially in singles as that tiebreak win may come in very handy later in the season, given how tight the ladder currently is.

Section 9 Maccabi 5-7-55 def MCC 1-1-30

Lauren Yarrow 8-6
Lachie Zuker 8-0
Nathan Needleman 8-4
Datt/Yarrow 6-3 7-5
Zuker/Needleman 6-3 6-1

Alan had a tough game which went game for game until the end but his opponent just overcame him!
Lauren had a tough game ahead given she's still recovering from an ankle injury! Took the lead for the entire game, she let her opponent catch up to a game behind and then finished off with a win!
Lachie smashed his opponent but cracked it even when he was 6-0 up! He still won his game with ease!
Nathan had a good match with some great rallies!! He was starving for some food during his match so let his opponent get a few more games but in the end he took the set!
Doubles:
Alan and Lauren had a great match where they were down in the first but came back to clench the it! In the second set it went game for game until they took the lead to clench the set!
Highlights: Alan covered the net like a brick wall! Lauren's bullets down the line from outside the court!!!
Lachie and Nathan had a great match with lots of rallies clenching the first set only giving away a few games! In the second set, highlights were from both Lachie and Nathan who steamrolled their way to win the second easily!!!
