4 May 2019 - Round 2 Winter

In a rain affected weekend, few matches were completed.  There were wins for the Grade 3 and Grade 6 Maccabi teams.  The remaining five teams shared the points and were washed out without hitting a ball.

TENNIS VICTORIA WINTER PENNANT:

Grade 3 Maccabi 3-6-44 def Dingley 1-2-24

Asaf Nagar/Jess Flicker 6-2 6-3 and 6-0 6-2

Arthur Kaganovitch/Steven Gostin 6-4 6-0 and 6-7 2-6

We played against a young Dingley team who won 4-0 in the first round io their home ground. Jess and Asaf playing together for the first time were fantastic on the day losing only 7 games in 4 sets. Having Arthur Kaganovitch as an emergency helped the team as he and Steve playing together won easily their first rubber 6-4 6-0. Arthur and Steve got a bit  tired losing a close second rubber but we already won the day 3-1. Great effort by all players!

Grade 6 Maccabi 4-8-52 def Beaumaris 0-1-17

Geoff Rosenberger/Saul Muscatel 6-0 6-0 and 6-1 6-1

Damon Flicker/Ryan Behr 4-6 6-1 6-4 and 6-1 6-3

A solid performance by all players against a team who played grade 8 last winter.  Geoff/Saul completed their 1st rubber at the time the other court was at 4 all in the 1st set!
A lapse by Damon/Ryan saw them lose this set, before overpowering their opponents in the 2nd.  Damon seems to thrive when things are at its toughest, and so at 2-4 down in the decider, he lifted as usual and combined with Ryan to win the final 4 games and the rubber.  The two of them won the 2nd rubber in a canter.
Meanwhile Geoff/Saul after dominating their 1st set, were down 0-3 in the 2nd before winning 6 in a row in a polished performance.
A great start to the season with 2 away wins.  Looking forward to our 1st home match next week.
- Geoff Rosenberger
