Three Junior Teams Qualify for Finals

Posted: 19-Nov-2015 by Tennis

The details for this weekend's Junior Competition Finals Series, featuring three Maccabi teams, have been announced.

Finals Format

The finals format is similar to that used in the AFL. In the 1st Semi Final of each section, the top two teams from the regular season face off, with the loser receiving a 'double chance' in a subsequent Preliminary Final and the winner qualifying directly to the Grand Final.

Meanwhile, the 3rd and 4th placed teams in each section play a knockout fixture; the winner going on to play the loser of the 1st Semi Final in the Preliminary Final, and the loser instantly eliminated.

With all Maccabi teams having more than four players, there will be the added challenge of deciding which players will play singles or doubles.

Junior Finals

After the final round of the junior home and away season, three out of 12 Maccabi junior teams finished in the top four of their respective sections.

This season, many teams found the competition tougher, having been promoted after strong showings last season.

The Section 13 team, comprised of Gilad Nagar, Jordan Galgut, Naveh Eckhous, Kevin Haskin, Jackson Jury and Josh Newfield, finished in second position. They will play a Semi Final against Stella Maris on Saturday for a place in the Grand Final in two weeks' time, with the loser having a double chance in next week's Preliminary Final.

In section 14, the Maccabi team of Natan Sharp, Joel Klooger, Reuben Zajac, Jamie Samuels, Dion Klooger, finished on top of the ladder. They will host Black Rock on Saturday, also hoping to secure direct passage to the Grand Final, to be played on December 5.

In the Sunday Bayside junior competition, Maccabi's section 4 side finished in second position. Michael Rabinowicz, Marty Schwarz, Joshua Sharp, Jarryd Tauber, Moshe Wajsbort and Eli Paykel-Samuel will travel away to the best side in the section, Hampton, on Sunday morning, and try to earn a spot in the Grand Final.
