Two Maccabi Teams Qualify for Pennant Finals

Posted: 11-Aug-2015 by Tennis

The last round of the adult Tennis Victoria Winter Pennant season was played over the weekend and only two out of ten Maccabi teams have qualified for finals.  A number of teams were promoted from last season and faced sterner competition but nevertheless there are many positives to take away from this season.

Maccabi's top team, which plays in Grade 3, finished in first place and have a home final against East Malvern on Saturday.  The team, captained by Club coach Asaf Nagar, and ably supported by the talented Assaf Drori, mostly consist of the same players that were finalists in Grade 3 last year, but will be hoping to go one better and win a Pennant for the Club.  A significant factor in the team's success has been the addition of Arthur Kaganovitch, who at just 15 years old, has had a breakout season.

The other Maccabi team to qualify for finals faces a tough away assignment in Deer Park. The Grade 7 team, led by skipper Adam Needleman, was not expected to play finals this year but has also been inspired by youth in the form of their no 1 player, Joey Pat - another one of the Club's rising young stars.

All Maccabi and tennis fans are welcome and encouraged to support the teams on Saturday.
