Yom HaShoah Remembrance - May 5 2016

Dr Daniel Prenn

Yom HaZikaron l'Shoah vel'Gvurah (Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day) is the official day of remembrance and commemoration for the 6 million innocent Jewish victims, murdered in the Holocaust.

It is also a day to remember the heroism displayed during terrible and terrifying times.

Yom HaShoah falls on Nisan 27. The date was selected by Israel to coincide with the heroic Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943. In 2016, Yom HaShoah begins on the evening of May 4 and ends on the evening of May 5.

On behalf of Maccabi Tennis Club, we would like to honour and respect the memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

The legacy of the Holocaust is still felt today and 71 years later, we are privileged to still have living Holocaust Survivors in Melbourne to educate us on their experiences of survival and loss.

We have shared a brief article (below) about the impact of the Holocaust and Nazi regime on a prominent German Jewish tennis player of the 1920s and 1930s, Dr Daniel Prenn.
