Award for Ashley Weill

We’ve previously reported that Ashley Weill came 2nd in her category in the 5km event at the Victorian Open Water Championships held at Williamstown on 17 December. However, even better than that, Ashley was the first Victorian swimmer in the event, and her achievement was recognised this last Friday at the opening of the VIC Open Championships where she was awarded the Gold Medal for the event. Ashley, on behalf of all of us, huge congratulations on an absolutely outstanding achievement!! You really are having an amazing season!

Williamstown Open Water Challenge – 17 December 2017

The results of the WOW Challenge are at last available, and I’m pleased to report that our swimmers did us proud!
This year’s event was tough, with participants having to swim head-on into a fresh south-easter and to contend with reasonably large swells and generally choppy conditions. But our swimmers rose to the occasion and produced some spectacular results. There were so many highlights, its hard to know where to begin!

Pt Leo Race  – 26 December 2017

For the first time in a number of years, Pt Leo turned on a perfect set of conditions for the Boxing Day swim. And what a treat it was – a warm sunny day, light breeze, only the slightest gentle swell and crystal-clear waters! So much so that a number of the 1.2km swimmers switched to the 2.5km event on the day

Rock2Ramp – 28 December 2017

Two Maccabi OWS swimmers took part in the Rock2Ramp swim at Anglesea:

Rip View Swim Classic – 30 December 2017

The Rip View Swim Classic at Point Lonsdale is one of the highlights of the open water calendar and one of the best organised events of the season. Unfortunately, this year they were let down by the weather which was pretty shocking…..

Danger 1000 – 6 January 2018

Three Maccabi OWS swimmers took part in the Danger 1000 event at Torquay this last weekend: Ashley Weill swam in the 1km event, Tali Bernard did the 2.5km “More Dangerous” swim and Roelof Vogel did both.

Pier to Pub – 13 January 2018
Three Series swimmers made the trip to Lorne this past weekend to take part in the iconic Pier to Pub Race. While the weather was miserable, the swimming conditions were excellent and the intermittent rain squalls couldn’t dampen the spirits of the 220 participants in the 5km event or the 5,000 swimmers in the 1.2km event.

Australia Day Swims (26 January 2018)

Australia Day is always a huge day for open water swims and this year was no exception. Conditions at Mt Martha and Brighton couldn’t have been better; and 15 Maccabi Series swimmers competed across the two events.

MMAD Swim – Mt Martha

What started off as a grey misty day turned out to be a stunner once the sun broke through. Swimming conditions were also perfect with clear, calm water and hardly a breath of wind. And the Mt Martha LSC once again hosted an excellent event.
