Warriors Off To A Great Start In 2012

Posted: 06-Feb-2012 by Maccabi VIC

The new look Maccabi Warriors took their first steps towards an exciting year ahead when they finished runners up in the Seaside Basketball Carnival in Warrnambool over the Australia Day Weekend. This tournament featured former NBA player Sedale Threatt, former NBL players Chris Anstey and Lanard Copeland and many representative players from South Australia and Victoria.

Due to the number of new faces to the team this trip was very important for team chemistry off court as well as on the boys connected very well. After finishing the preliminary round robin phase only dropping one game the boys felt confident going into the play off rounds. Team captain Jeremy Dukes and 2011 MVP Benji Tamir all featured well in the round robin phase as well as new recruit Jeff Devers and returning star Dean Rzechta. Rookies Ben and Jon Polonsky also featured on the weekend stepping up to many challenges that were thrown at them.

In the semi final the athleticism of Jason Conway and Adam Klas was no match for the opposition as the Warriors played their way into the grand final. Unfortunately the Warriors were unable to start off the year in fairytale fashion and lost the grand final by 11 points however great experience was gained by the team.

The Maccabi Warriors in 2012 are proud to once again have Meerkin & Apel, Fridcorp, JR Duty Free, Korjo and Classic Cinemas as major sponsors. The team’s next test will feature on February 9, 8pm at Bialik College where they will match up against BIGV Division 1 team Camberwell Dragons entry is free.
