Posted: 01-Jul-2019 by Maccabi VIC

On behalf of the Board of Maccabi Victoria and all of Maccabi, we would like to congratulate the following Maccabi Victoria Hall of Fame Members on their wonderful respective achievements in this year’s Queen's Birthday Honours. It is very fitting that their outstanding services to our community be acknowledged. Maccabi Victoria is proud to be associated with them and we are thrilled that their efforts have been recognised. You are a credit to our community.

Trevor Cohen AM

Trevor was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for his  distinguished service to the Jewish community and to heritage preservation.

Trevor acknowleges that his strong community connection "really all started with sport". He played in AJAX Football Club's first team and found success in the weightlifting arena.

Trevor is a Life Member and Trustee of the Judaean League and was inducted into the Maccabi Victoria Hall of Fame in 2000.

Maccabi Victoria is very proud to be associated with Trevor as a most accomplished athlete, dedicated and tireless administrator and respected stalwart of our organisation.

Les Kausman OAM

Les was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.

It was a very fitting acknowledgment of his distinguished service to sport and to the community.

He was inducted into Maccabi Victoria's Hall of Fame in 2000 and has been a player, captain, president, volunteer and mentor for Maccabi AJAX Cricket since joining the club as a child. He finished his playing days as the club's highest run-scorer and a member of its Team of the Century.

He participated in 17 Maccabi cricket carnivals, represented Australia at two Maccabiah Games in cricket and golf, and served as president of the Cranbourne Golf Club, writing a book about its history and strong Jewish heritage.

"I see Maccabi and Jewish sport as not only fostering incredibly strong friendships and providing another way of connecting people to their Jewish heritage, but also offering players the opportunity to be ambassadors of their faith when playing in open competitions. It is great that Maccabi is going from strength to strength."
