The fifth annual NSW versus Victoria Maccabi tennis challenge was held on the weekend of 6-7 April at the Maccabi Tennis Club in Bentleigh, Victoria.  Sixteen New South Welshmen travelled down to Melbourne to try to hold on to the trophy which they had won back last time when the event was held in Sydney.  On the previous four occasions, the home team had won the event, and this again proved to be the case with Victoria proving too strong for NSW.  A great weekend was had by all with plenty of tennis and, of course, plenty of eating.  This doubles event has players of all abilities, with players selected from the top team to the lowest team.  The main theme is participation and  having fun, with the players from the two states rekindling old friendships and forming new friendships.
The return event is already being planned for 2020 with Victorian chairman of selectors Adam Needleman planning a more ruthless approach to team selection including arriving several days early for training purposes to acclimatise to the different playing surface that NSW offer in an attempt for Victoria to be the first team to successfully defend their title.
