Hat-Trick hero Lubitz inspires 1st XI to Victory

Adam Lubitz has claimed the second First XI seven wicket haul for the season thus far, this time against Parkdale United. Lubitz’s stunning display of bowling was achieved inside a 13 over spell and included a hat-trick.

The round five encounter was transformed into a one day clash after rain washed out all play last weekend.

David’s Majtlis’s decision to bowl first proved devastating for the home side, as Lubitz (7/13) together with Alan Goldstein (3/27) tore apart Parkdale’s line-up inside 27 overs with only 55 runs on the board.

It certainly wasn’t as bright a start for Maccabi following the break, as they found themselves in deep trouble at 4/20.

Brandon Friedman returned to action following year 12 exams with a mature 19, while not for the first time this season, David Majtlis (50 not out) led from the front and guided the Firsts to victory. At the end of the day, Maccabi were all out for 111.

After the first five rounds, the Firsts sit second on the South A1 ladder. They next play ladder leaders Moorabbin Park at home on Albert Park Oval 9.

The 2nd XI capped off a miserable weekend for Parkdale after claiming a 37 run victory on Gary Smorgon Oval 9 .

Maccabi’s Aaron Fetter (58) and Ari Goldberg (27) put the hosts in the driving seat following the early loss of opener Jeremy Balbin for 9. A run out in the middle order and a wicket shortly after didn’t prove too costly as the Seconds compiled a highly competitive 8/142 from their allotted 40 overs.

Promising youngster Michael Feiler, making his first appearance since completing year 12 exams, returned with figures of 0/10 off his 5 overs. However, Stuart Fayman (4/16), Nathan Rothschild (3/40) and JJ. Zimmet (2/13) did the bulk of the damage for Maccabi and ensured Parkdale fell well short of their target being bowled out for 105.

The Seconds now sit fifth on the South A2 ladder after four games.

The 3rd and Silver Arc 4th XI’s also posted comfortable victories. For full match details, see the scoreboard.

In other news, Maccabi’s VTCA T20 campaign is all but over after suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Senior Division outfit Beaumaris.

Maccabi struggled from the outset, losing wickets at regular intervals and set Beaumaris a modest target of 55.

Beaumaris eclipsed the home sides total with only one wicket down. The loss comes following Maccabi’s first round defeat away to Bentleigh Demons.

On Friday 2nd December, the club held its annual Past Players Association Golf Day at Cranbourne Golf Club.

Some of the prizes on offer included a cool $10,000 reward for a hole-in-one on the third hole courtesy of Sound Insurance.

Joel Rembach, Daniel Onas, Allan Shieffield and Jonathon Weinstock’s foursome finished the days play with the lowest score. The club looks forward to seeing you on the fairways again in 2012.
