Maccabi Future Leaders Program

We are thrilled that our “Future Leaders Program” commenced on Sunday 18th March 2018 with a 3 hour introductory workshop.

Rochelle Rothfield and Peter Ernest have put together a great program with fantastic professional speakers/facilitators and it has been well received and engaging.

The program commenced with a 3 hour introduction workshop and will be followed by 5 x 2 hour evening sessions ending with a 3 hour completion program on Sunday 7 October 2018 where completion certificates will also be handed out.

The topics include: Governance & Stakeholder Engagement, Strategic Leadership and developing a clear vision, Financial Sustainablility and Fundraising, Risk Analysis & Mitigation, Innovative Leadership and Creative Problem Solving.

We have participants on the program attending from Basketball, Water Polo, Swimming, Netball, Womens Soccer and Golf.

After completion of the program, each participant is to be assigned to a Club Board and assigned a mentor (the assignment of the Club mentor will be confirmed prior to the completion of the program). The graduates will participate initially as an observer on your Club Board and mentored to be an active participant who can take on a project for the club and/or a leadership role.

Session 2 of the Player Leadership Program has progressed with each of the participants opening up their lives in a tell all segment where they share with each other significant times of their lives. Understanding others helps a team work best, viewing the world from their point of view and being able to walk a mile in their shoes if only for a few minutes makes us all wiser &  helps build a better team / Club.

Throughout each session a group of leaders get to lead the others through a practical activity  which is followed immediately by team feedback and review. In this way, not only do the Leaders learn the theory of how to making their teams great, they practice the traits of world class Leaders.

Maccabi Victoria School Sports Coaching Program

Wolfpack fitness (Bialik College early morning athletics program) is going well – the last few weeks the students have been able to practice their events with the expert guidance of Amanda and Harvey from the Maccabi Coaching Program. Both coaches have also attended our sport afternoons to help with more of our students during school time. These sessions have been excellent.

They are open to ideas, proactive and communicate well.  The students seem to be responding positively, and are enjoying the drills they present.

The Athletics Coaching Program will continue at Bialik College in Term 2 and will also commence at The King David School in Term 2.

Maccabi All Abilities Program Recognised

On Friday January 19, Maccabi Victoria All Abilities were very proud to be named joint winners for Glen Eira’s Community Group of the Year Award.

Presented at Council’s annual Australia Day breakfast by Glen Eira Mayor Cr Tony Athanasopoulos, the Awards recognise the outstanding contributions of community groups which, through hard work and dedication, have significantly contributed to the Glen Eira community.

With only 24% of Victorians with a disability currently participating in sport and recreation (compared to 79% of the mainstream population), it’s more important than ever for organisations to be trying to work towards inclusive and accessible sport.

Over 25 individuals and groups were nominated for the Awards, and we are very proud to have been named a winner, alongside Inclusion Melbourne.

Womens Footy coach

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Daniel Slonim as AJAX senior Women’s Coach for 2018!

Daniel has had years of experience as a coach and was a former player at our club and in the VFA. He will be a great asset to our team!

Student placement - Dylan Wilson

“My experience with Maccabi so far has been exceptional, I have helped Paul Platus in the organisation of the sports of the Junior Carnival that was held in January, and currently I’m undertaking my placement for university by working alongside Mark Williams from Maccabi. The past two months with Mark, I have already gained a wealth of knowledge and I looking forward to continuing working under his guidance in the up and coming year. I’m very grateful Maccabi has given me this opportunity”
