Maccabi Player Leadership Program Off to a Great Start

Posted: 01-Mar-2018 by Maccabi VIC

Player Leadership Program began at King David School where we had 36 participants from 10 of the Maccabi clubs. It was especially great to see 11 women involved and keen to develop their leadership skills, after the initial meet and greet, and practical activity to mix. Players learnt the characteristic of champion leaders. This course involved in theory and practical with each of the participants needing to “perform” in front of their peers, then be open to feedback and critique. Just like all skills leadership needs to be practice so following the session each participant has “homework” to complete in the next month. Maccabi Victoria are delighted that the participating clubs have all willing jump in to assist in the mentoring process of these young leaders for the time between session where they are back at their clubs. In summary, leaders have an intensive one and half hour session with Mark Williams followed by continuing mentoring from their club coach. Initial feedback from the participant has been excellent and we look forward to updating you on the progress of this group.

Text Message from Participant following the first session

“I just wanted to let you know that the session last night really inspired me to perform at training today - i ran a PB in the time trial, was vocal and was organizing my team during the game, and was constantly giving feedback to some of the newer and younger guys who are playing their first season of outdoor. I also compiled a word doc with some inspiring images, ted talks, quotes, videos, and some books on some of the things we discussed yesterday - all on the USB. I left training knowing I left everything on the pitch and am super satisfied with my efforts.
Thank you for last night -I am looking forward to next month’s session.”
