Melbourne was a Cycling Mecca on Sunday 16th October

Posted: 17-Oct-2011 by Maccabi VIC

Melbourne was a Cycling Mecca on Sunday 16th October With the annual Around the Bay event. There were a few ride options and although Maccabi did not enter a team, many of our members rode in one of the events ranging from 100km - 250km all the way around Port Philip bay. No doubt if you were driving in the area you would have seen 1000's of cyclists on the road. Congratulations to everyone who participated in an event.

The next official club event is the club championships to be held on Sunday 6th November along the Kew Boulevard. It will be in the form of a Time Trial so its a "race against the clock" or against yourself. We would like to see all members compete for the coveted Club Champion jersey. We have a number of age categories from Under 16 to 50+. So come along and give it a "red hot" go.

We have also been a ladies riding group. They leave from the corner of St Kilda St & Ormond Esplanade at 8am every Sunday morning for a pleasant ride to Black Rock or Mordialloc. Distance is decided on the day depending on the riders that are there. For further information, please contact John Gould at: The plan is to have a leisurely ride as a group and to stick together. We will have 1 or 2 experienced riders accompanying the group to assist with group riding techniques and any mechanical issues that arise I.e.punctures. There will be plenty of schmoozing time on the ride as well as a yummy breakfast (or coffee & cake) at the end.

The Junior program has kicked off well this term. If you have a child aged between 11 & 15 who is interested in road cycling as a sport, please contact Nick Orloff at:
