Maccabi AJAX’s First XI strong start to the season has continued against Highett following their emphatic victory last weekend. After winning the toss and deciding to bat, the Firsts piled on an enormous total of 270 from their allotted 80 overs. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Firsts. At tea, Highett had restricted the home side to 3/84.

A strong fifth wicket record partnership (122) between Maccabi’s captain David Majtlis and Dean Wiener proved costly for Highett as the pair both notched up classy half centuries. Majtlis eventually fell for a classy knock of 96, getting his season with the bat off to a scintillating start. Following Majtlis’s departure, Wiener (71 not out) was joined at the crease by Mark Shnider (45) and the two batsmen helped propel the Firsts to a daunting total and so too run-chase for their opponents next Saturday.

The 2nd XI found themselves on the back foot straight away against their opponents Highett after losing the toss and being sent in to bat at Turner Road Reserve. Stand in 2nd XI Maccabi captain Jeff Nadelman (28), Daniel Sneider (18) and Lester Buch (15) did their best to fight off a strong Highett bowling attack as the seconds were bowled out for a modest total of 105. In response, the home side finished the day off on 95 for the loss of 5 wickets. Veteran Jamie Hyams (4/30) was the chief destroyer for Maccabi.

The 3rd XI went into their one day game against Parkville District full of confidence with the inclusions of club stalwarts Laurie Shneider and Darren Seidl. After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Parkville compiled an impressive 8/219 from their 45 overs. Third XI Skipper Jeremy Siegal and Adam Shapiro both claimed 3 wickets while Brent Shapiro (on debut) claimed 2. Maccabi never looked liked toppling their opponents total as they were bowled out for a dismal 60.

The Silver Arc Sunday 4th XI finished off the weekends fixtures with a comfortable victory against TTS Black on Gary Smorgan Oval 9. After losing an early wicket, Ian Jones (41) and Osher Klein (27) put on 60 runs for the second wicket before Simon Morawetz (31 not out) and Gideon Gelbart (18 not out) helped guide the 4th XI to a defendable 5/139 from 45 overs. Maccabi’s captain Ian Jones (3/4), Josh Jones (2/16) and Dovi Broner (2/4) dominated proceedings with the ball as they restricted TTS Black to 71 all out.
