Jemima Montag - First in the U20 5 km racewalk

The first weekend of the Victorian Track and Field championships delivered some great results for club and Jewish athletes.

Jemima Montag (photo above) won the under 20 5K racewalk in her first competitive walking race for 12 months – having concentrated on her VCE year (and topping Wesley – if you don’t mind!). Liam Eliau in his first season excelled in the under 17 100m making the final in a PB of 11.71 sec and finishing 6th in Victoria. Tess Burger also recorded a massive PB (by 10 seconds) in the under 18 1500m (4m 55.43sec) and is looking forward to her strongest event, the 3000m next weekend.

Asher Marks, not to be outdone also clocked a PB in a gutsy under 20 400m heat (51.82sec) just missing the final, whilst Piper Montag competed in the under 17 triple jump finishing 6th and very much looking forward to her power event the shot put.

Ex Bialik student Yotam Kimchi (Glenhuntly) won the silver medal in the under 18 triple jump with a first up leap of 13.34m and Maccabiah Games bound athlete Will McIntyre (Sandringham) won the bronze in the under 17 110 Hurdles having run a PB of 16.96 sec in the heats. Others to compete well included David and Jamie Blecher and Camilla Burrows.

The Vic champs continue next weekend.
