Lawn Bowls and Live Music for Disability Day

Posted: 12-Dec-2016 by All Abilities

International Day of People with a Disability is held each year on December 3 and designed to help break down disability barriers and celebrate abilities. In previous years, Maccabi has held an all abilities lawn bowls day and Jewish Care have hosted a Disability Day event. This year they decided to collaborate, along with a number of other community organisations, to offer a fantastic day for all ages and all abilities. The day was a collective effort between Maccabi All Abilities, Jewish Care, WIZO Kids, the Maccabi Bowls Club, Armadale Bowls Club and Access Inc. and saw over 100 people enjoying lawn bowls, afternoon tea, and live music from Josh Batten. There was also the opportunity to decorate a WIZO placemat to be sent to children in Israel and face painting by Friendship Circle.

David Southwick, MP said, “It is fantastic to see a coalition of outstanding community organisations host events on International Day of People of Disability which promote a more inclusive community for all abilities.”

“While there is a great deal of work remaining to support people with disabilities in education, employment and housing, the Jewish community continues to be a leader in promoting inclusiveness.”

Participant and Manders Villas resident Uri Rosenberg said, "It was a fantastic day. We enjoyed the bowling and the lovely food which was prepared. There was a little bit of rain but that didn’t stop us having a great time."
