Coaches Corner

Posted: 01-Dec-2016 by Maccabi VIC

It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to work at Maccabi Victoria and receive such a warm  welcome into the Jewish community. During the first month I have experienced Shabbat under the Sukkah at Phil Lewis’ house with Ronnie and his family. My wife &  I were  a guests of Macvic’s President Brian Swersky & David Cohen at the Holocaust museum and we were fortunate to have the opportunity to meet Sarah, a holocaust survivor, and hear her story; an experience we will never forget.  On Monday this week I spoke at the Friends of Maccabi function and had the chance to schmooze over an enjoyable lunch, lots of fun & many great characters.

The AJAX footy club has been preseason training for the last 3 weeks. It is great to see such energy and excitement among the players and coaches, and a good level of skills as well. We also had a great turn out by the boys recently for a team breakfast following a team training session. The committee have been outstanding, upgrading some of the facilities and equipment, and we look forward to a great start to the season. For any other interested prospective footballers out there; grab your boots and we’ll see you at Gary Smorgon oval, Albert Park, Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6pm sharp.

A recent highlight of our training sessions has been the introduction of Lauren Goldbloom and Josh Ferenbach from the All Abilities group, who have joined our support team, running water to the players and generally keeping the fun in training. It’s a great initiative from the footy club and we look forward to other clubs taking up similar opportunities in the near future.

My role as Director of Coaching and Development has seen me meet with the Presidents of the major Maccabi sporting clubs to discuss their coaching needs. As a result coaching workshops are planned for early 2017. Anyone who is interested in being involved in coaching sport at Maccabi please ensure that you get in contact with Maccabi Victoria office to organise to attend one of the upcoming workshops.

Looking forward to many sunny days ahead

Stay healthy

Cheers
