Ten new members were inducted into the prestigious Maccabi Victoria Hall of Fame last Thursday night, 15 September 2016, at a stunning event at St Kilda Town Hall.  Mazal Tov to all of the 24 Hall of Fame Nominees and to the final 10 inductees who are as follows:

  • Russell Jaffe
  • Henry Jolson OAM QC*
  • Mark Klapish
  • Geoff Lipshut
  • Gail Nadelman
  • Dean Rzechta
  • Anna Segal
  • Ivan Wingreen*

Current Hall of Fame Members, Bernie Gold OAM, Henry Nissen OAM and Harry Procel OAM  were elevated to 'Legend' status in front of over 370 guests, including members of the Maccabi Victoria Hall of Fame and Life Members of Maccabi Victoria, Board Members of Maccabi Victoria and Directors of the Maccabi Victoria Sports Foundation, Presidents and members from our 23 clubs, Maccabi Victoria Sponsors, guests from the corporate sector, and VIP’s from other communal organisations who attended the Fourth Induction – a five-yearly event.

Bernie Gold OAM, Henry Nissen OAM and Harry Procel OAM  now join other Maccabi Victoria Legends, Suzy Javor and the late Basil Isaacs, the late Kurt Defris AM and Robby Foldvari.

It was an honour and a privilege to have Chef de Mission of the 2016 Australian Olympic Team Kitty Chiller, as Special Guest Speaker. Kitty captivated the room with her integrity, honesty and passion.  Her insightful presentation into the challenges and rewards of sport, both as a competitor and an administrator, was something to which many in the audience could relate.  Kitty’s wisdom and anecdotes were greatly appreciated as demonstrated by the standing ovation received.

A special moment of the evening was the moving tribute to the Hall of Fame members no longer with us including the late David Mandie AM OBE, Michael Weinstein, Barney Peters, Phil Kleid, Daryl Cohen and Sol Spitalnic OAM  who have passed away since the 3rd Induction in 2011, accompanied by a breathtaking rendition of “Wind Beneath my Wings’ by young vocalist, Jemma Cher.

Hall of Fame member, Tal Karp did an outstanding job as MC on the night and Harrison Craig, winner of The Voice Australia 2013, graciously entertained the audience with his most beautiful voice, showcased with a memorable duet with Jemma of the spine tingling ballad ‘You Raise Me Up”.

Our sincere thanks to Major event sponsor, Scott Winton, and to all of the many wonderful sponsors and supporters of this event and of Maccabi Victoria to whom we are most appreciative.

A beautiful Commemorative Booklet has been produced to commemorate this event, which is available at the Maccabi Victoria office - 9563 5885.
