Maccabi Open men's X Country Team On The Way To Back to Back Premierships

Posted: 06-Sep-2016 by Maccabi VIC

Hi Athletes and friends,

The Victorian ½ marathon road race took place yesterday at Burnley boulevard and what a day it was!  Maccabi Open men’s division 5 x country team has all but sewn up the Athletics Victoria premiership for the second year in a row. Outstanding runs from the team members  - especially 43 year old Zac Ashkanasy (photo above) who recorded a sensational 74 minutes 0.3 sec to place 3rd in his age group and finish 2nd in the Victorian 40-44 x country championship. Other club members to compete and ensure the club victory included Adam Bogatin, Adam Beckman, Julien Schulberg, Naphtali Meltzer, Adi Glasman and Jason Kozica.

Also competing were Josh Goldstat (who is a highly ranked state Masters triathlete) who jogged a 10K warm up, ran the half brilliantly in 77min19.1 sec – then jogged back to his car many kilometres away! And Maccabiah Games entrants Len Bryer and Daniel Bierenkrant as well as Danny Harris, Eran Lande and Mark Blecher amongst the many.

Bialik College graduate Anita Feigin finished 30th in the Open women’s event in the time of 89min56.1sec – a super run (Maccabiah Games qualify time is 95minutes!).

And not to be outdone Junior Maccabiah Games aspirant Tess Burger ran nicely in the under 16, 6K race (photo above).

Club Fundraiser

Huge thanks to Braham Shnider and Ralph Marks for the very successful sausage sizzle fundraiser held recently at Bunnings Oakleigh. Loads of great helpers including Ralph’s dad Harold and brother Richard (master chefs!), Ray Montag, daughter Andy and super server friend Jessica, Zac (and family), Yvette (Olympic and Maccabi volunteer!), Adam, Nir and Ori. We raised over $1200  - also big thanks to Tip Top Butchers (Carlo) for their assistance and service.

What a Run

Talking of distance running great to see former club member Adrian Lazar Adler (now living in the United States) run the CascadeCrest100, a 100 mile trail race through the Central Cascades of Washington State! He completed the course in 20 hours and 42 minutes – whew – what a run!

Mazel tov

Huge mazeltov to Rick (Maccabi Athletics Life Member) and Kerry Kornhauser (ex club athlete) who have become first time grandparents (and Mark and Deborah Dreyfus)– and to Hal (ex club Chairman) and Roz Levy (great grandparents).  Tara and Joe and the new young (son of a ) gun all doing fine!
