Victorian Golf Club Team Just Miss Out on the President'sCup

Posted: 03-Mar-2015 by Maccabi VIC

Another year passes and once again Victoria just miss out on the Cup.

The 12 Victorian golfers selected to represent the Maccabi Victoria Golf Club left Melbourne for Queensland to attend the 14th Annual “Presidents Cup”,  confident that they could bring home the trophy after 11 barren years.

After 3 fiercely competitive days it was another case of oh so close but yet so far.

After the opening day at Lakelands Victoria were undefeated with a 5.5 points out of a maximum 6 leaving WA & NSW far behind.

Playing the 2nd day at The Glades proved difficult for the Victorian team, only managing to score 2/6 points but still maintaining their overnight lead by 1 point from Western Australia.

Day 3 was played at Royal Pines and Victoria needed 6 points from the 12 singles matches to almost guarantee success.

How close we got with 5 points in early and then watched as WA won  2 dramatic games on the 18th green vs NSW to snatch the cup from our grasp leaving Victoria 2nd and  NSW way back in 3rd place.

Whilst we did not bring home the cup all 12 golfers contributed at least 1 point, but just not enough on day 2, which was a great effort.

Congratulations to Alon Cohen and Rob Goldstein who both ended the weekend unbeaten.

This event ,while highly competitive, is played in true Maccabi spirit.

Thanks to NSW for hosting a truly amazing 4 days.

Back to Melbourne next year and very confident that the gap has closed.
