Riley Hart Beats Fastest to Claim Three National Titles

Posted: 03-Mar-2015 by Maccabi VIC

The King David School Year 10 student, Riley Hart, won three national titles at last weeks National Junior Track Cycling Championships held in Victoria.  Hart, 15, took all the pressure off with a win in his first event, the 15km Points Race, with a dominate performance that allowed him to sit up and enjoy the last 10-laps as he’d already sown up the win and was in an unbeatable position with the last sprint still to come.  Later that night Hart was part of the winning Team Pursuit team breaking the national record covering the championship distance of 3000m in 3.17.790 with an average speed of almost 55kmph.

Day two saw Hart qualify for the Gold medal ride against his team mate in the the Individual Pursuit; this time he just missed out, securing the Silver medal in a seat-of-your-pants final that went down to the wire.  Hart managed to bookend his championships with another dominate win in the 30-lap Scratch Race leading home a Victorian trifecta to ensure the state won the prestigious Ray Godkin Shield.

The performance has earned Hart a nomination for a scholarship to the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) and form part of the National High Performance track endurance program.
