This past weekend Maccabi Cycling Club - Maccabi Australia's youngest club - celebrated a slightly late 5th birthday (Club was formed in Aug 2009).

About 50 members and partners attended a fun filled evening function that included two guest speakers and the first ever presentation of a series of awards to members.

As Maccabi Cycling doesn't directly compete against other clubs the awards not only recognised cycling ability & prowess but members who have contributed to the club and behave as "good clubmen & women".

The winners were:

  • Young Gun of the Year: Jai Kanat
  • Young Gun Rookie of the Year: Dean Diamond
  • Woman of the Year: Miriam Treger
  • Man of the Year: Harry Samuels
  • Mountain Goat: Anton Hermann
  • Rookie of the Year: Gidi Kabaker
  • Hall of Fame: John Gould

An additional award was presented to Richard Shaw of Rubin Partners to recognise their ongoing and generous support as the Club's principal sponsor.

The club's president, Nick Orloff, said "It was a fantastic night, lots of laughs, and very exciting to present our first awards. John Gould has been a true clubman since he joined as one of the Club's foundation members and was an ideal choice as our first Hall of Fame member. It was also great to be able to recognise Rubin Partners who have supported the club since it's inception"
