62 golfers entered the 2014 3 day event played on the Bellarine Peninsular.

To commemorate the lives of 2 past members the men played for the Alex Silbersher shield while the ladies competed for the Janine Kirzner shield. Both these past members were great supporters of the club and have been sorely missed.

The first day was played at the beautiful Barwon Heads course, a difficult but fair challenge and it was Bob Sadlon with 38 points who lead the field from Morris Davidson and Harry Procel on 37.

Annete Landes with an opening 37 points led the ladies from Gloria Rubinstein on 34

As is often the case 2nd day is moving day and the golf was amazing. Played at 13th Beach in a strong wind Merv Same absolutely blitzed the field to shoot 44 points and take a 3 shot lead into the final round from Steven Ehrenreich who shot a great 41 points. Bob Sadlon was a further 3 shots behind after a consistent 35 point second round.

Annette Landes with 66points also took a 3 shot lead into the final round to lead from Lesly Silbersher and Rebecca Burd.

Sunday was played at the Sands Golf course in Torquay and was in immaculate condition with the greens playing fast and true. This truly beautiful course proved a stern test for all the golfers with 35 points being the highest individual score.

The final 4Ball of Same, Trackman, Ehrenreich and Sadlon teed off at 8am and it was on from the first hole. Merv Same struggled to get going as Trakman and Ehrenreich first caught him and led after 9 holes. But Merv knew what he was doing and a 22 point second 9 saw him come home with 35 points and claim the “ Alex Silbersher Shield” by 7 shots from Steven Ehrenreich and a fast finishing Nathan Cohen.

The Ladies event proved no less thrilling with Annette Landes taking a 3 shot lead into the final round from Lesley Silbersher with Rebecca Burd a further 2 shots behind. Playing the “round of her life” and shooting 40 points Rebecca Burd took the “Janine Kirzner Shield” by 3 shots from Annete Landes.

A Grade men’s was won by Nathan Cohen on 106 points

B Grade men’s and overall was won by Merv Same on 114 points.

Thanks to Tony Beaconsfield and the match committee for a very well organised and fun weekend.
