The All Abilities 'Dolphins" basketball team take the lead

Posted: 26-Mar-2014 by Maccabi VIC

On Sunday 23rd March, the Maccabi Victoria All Abilities 'Dolphins' basketball team had their first official game for the season.

This was an extremely exciting opportunity for the players- a chance to practice the skills they have been learning in their weekly training sessions with coach Kathryn Hay and assistant coaches David Chester, Jamie Zaidenberg and Tia Haye.

Despite training every week, there are only a small number of local all abilities basketball teams. Therefore, the players eagerly 'jumped' at the opportunity to venture to Dandenong stadium and take part in the annual 'Dandenong Valley Basketball Tournament'.

The team got to play in three 30 minute matches against other all abilities teams, of a similar playing level.

Players Josh Ferenbach and Gemma Rubenstein led the team to victory, encompassing true leadership and team work skills. Bar Levine was our star shooter, and scored 12 points in the first match against Dandenong Valley. Guy Slome worked hard at defending the ball, and put alot of pressure on the other teams. Tess Milgrom and Sharon Bryer demonstrated fantastic dedication, continuing to run up and down the court until the final siren rang. Harley Rose showed great enthusiasm, cheering on his team mates and encouraging them to keep playing "you're a winner!"

The Dolphin players also had the privilege of meeting the Dandenong Rangers SEABL men's team, and pose for a team photo.

Congratulations to the Dolphins for taking first place in this tournament. The team is looking forward to their next tournament, on Saturday 5th April.
