We experienced the Tribal Dance and loved it!

Posted: 17-Oct-2013 by Maccabi VIC

80 participants thoroughly enjoyed the unique ‘Tribal Dance’ Event held by Maccabi Victoria, Jewish Care and Access Inc. on Sunday 13 October at Bialik College.

Proceeds from this event are going towards an ‘All Abilities’ Holiday Program on 19-20 December 2013. The holiday programs offer young adults from our community who have special needs the opportunity to participate in a fun filled action packed holiday program that is sports based with a range of activities. The program also provides parents and carers a much needed break and respite.

MC for the morning, David Southwick MP – State Member for Caulfield, welcomed everyone to the event and interviewed some of the Access Inc Drumming Group. They discussed how much they enjoyed participating in the All Abilities holiday program.

The event featured the Access Inc Drumming Group comprising young people with special needs followed by a communal dance. The Access Drumming Group impressed the audience greatly with their moving drumming performance. As people watched in silent admiration, the pride and pleasure in their achievement was evident on the drummers’ faces.

The tribal dance is inspired by dynamic African tribal music and rhythmic moves led by Stephen McInnes from Gwinganna Health Retreat. The Tribal Dance event brings our community together through the shared experience of movement and activity and is one of a number of events run by the All Abilities Committee.

Since its inception in 2007, the All Abilities committee has worked tirelessly to promote and support people of all abilities to participate in sporting and recreational activities such as Maccabi sporting games, clinics, competitions and training events. They have enjoyed a variety of different sporting activities and competition over the years including basketball, soccer, lawn bowls, ten pin bowling, walking and table tennis. The Holiday Program is latest initiative.
