‘Respect, Responsibility & Making a Difference’- Susan Alberti’s Presentation Inspires Guests at the Annual Women's Health & Wellbeing Breakfast

Posted: 02-Sep-2013 by Maccabi VIC

The Georgian Room at the International of Brighton was filled to capacity on Wednesday 28 August as women from allied health fields, communal organisations, Maccabi Clubs and the community in general, enjoyed the Maccabi Victoria Women’s Health & Wellbeing Breakfast.

Maccabi Australia President, Lisa Borowick was the MC for the morning and as always kept the crowd entertained and the morning’s proceedings to schedule.

Susan Alberti AO, Chairman of the Susan Alberti Medical Research Foundation had the audience captivated with her presentation ‘Respect, Responsibility & Making a Difference'. It was an honour and a privilege to have her speak at this event. The Susan Alberti Medical Research Foundation was established by Susan Alberti to raise the profile and increase funding for important medical research in Australia. The Foundation has an intense focus on finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes, which is a continuing passion for Sue. More than ten years ago Sue’s only child, Danielle, died in her arms on a flight from the US to Australia from diabetes related complications. It was at that point that her lifelong commitment to finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes became a dedicated mission.

Susan also spoke of her role as Vice President of the Western Bulldogs and the importance of women in sport. We proudly spoke of the girls and women participating in our Maccabi sports clubs and made mention of our own new female football team – the Jackettes.

Sue congratulated the organisation on the hard work we do to promote sport and a healthy lifestyle amongst the 23 sporting and recreational clubs and more than 11,000 members, supporters, family and friends we bring together.

The function room once again looked spectacular with thanks to event volunteers, Giselle Berlinski and Michal Saben. Thanks also to Lincraft for the beautiful table cover fabrics.

With a delicious healthy breakfast and plenty of schmoozing, the morning concluded with the Auction of a David Bromley ‘On the Fence’ Artist Proof, kindly donated by Irving Laffner – Australian Art to the Trade. Limor Herskovits from Gary Peer & Associates did a fine job in her maiden Auctioneer performance, with Leah Swersky making the final bid on the much sought after artwork. The drawing of the Super Raffle by Susan Alberti and representatives from each of our Event Sponsors saw many delighted recipients of the fabulous prizes up for grabs, as did the popular Lucky Envelopes ‘Frenzy’.

And everyone was a winner as they took home with them a stunning Gift Bag, jam-packed with a variety of ‘Good Health & Wellbeing’ products, proudly sponsored by Chemist Warehouse with goodies also from Slim Secrets, Simon de Winter and Lowe Lippmann, as a token of appreciation of the pivotal role they play each day in promoting good health and wellbeing in the home and workplace environment.

Sincere thanks to Event Sponsors, Antler, Link Financial Services, Scott Winton Insurance Brokers, Lowe Lippmann, Charter Keck Cramer, Chemist Warehouse, Executive Edge, Gary Peer & Associates, Lincraft and HR Legal CIE Legal.

Thank you also to all Raffle Prize Donors, Lucky Envelope Prize Donors, table spot prizes and Gift Bag Contributors.

And thank you to all the patrons and guests who came along to support the Breakfast. It was a wonderful morning.
