Mazal Tov on your Bar-Mitzvah Nicolas and Thank You!

We are very grateful to Nicolas Herskope, who recently celebrated his Bar-Mitzvah and chose to support Maccabi Victoria Sports Foundation, a decision which has raised over $10,000 in donations.

When asked why he chose to donate to Maccabi Victoria in honour of his Bar-Mitzvah, this is what Nic shared with us.

“I chose to donate to Maccabi Victoria because, as a passionate sportsman and Maccabi participant, it is my wish to see the best possible sports opportunities available for others in the Jewish community.

I believe that sport is a great way for people to bond and feel good about themselves.

I currently play football for Maccabi and have played cricket and basketball in the past. I will also be attending junior Carnival in January. This personal connection inspired me to donate to Maccabi.

Charity will continue to be important to me as I understand that many others in the world are less fortunate than me. Many of my friends have chosen to donate to various charities via their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs and I hope that future Bar/Bat Mitzvah boys and girls will also continue to donate.

I also hope that they consider choosing Maccabi Victoria as their cause because I am sure nearly all of them will have participated in sport at some stage in a Maccabi club.”

The funds raised will go to support a wide range of programs that the Foundation supports, including:

  • Fee Relief: We are facing an increasing demand from families for fee relief for their children to play Maccabi sport; in addition, the forthcoming Junior Carnival (January 2013) has resulted in a significant number of families seeking fee support for their children to attend.
  • Coaching Development Program: we have recently initiated our Coaching Development Program, ensuring the quality of coaching provides the key to a great experience at the clubs.
  • Disability Program: We have recently completed a major research project looking at ways to increase the involvement in sport of Jewish kids and young adults with disabilities/special needs – this vital program will expand in 2013 to involve a wider range of activities and participants.
