Maccabi were well beaten on Sunday afternoon as a dismal first half eventually set up a 7-0 demolition for visiting side Ringwood JFC. Despite the thumping, there were definite positives to come from the game as Daniel Jaffa, Yudi Vorchheimer, Aron Malkinson and Jordan Kadim all impressed despite the lop-sided scoreline.

The game was a generally cagey affair and started in such fashion as both sides played with caution, switching the ball from left wing to right. Sloppy errors through the midfield by both teams created a game of ping pong as the game rebounded back and forth from end to end. However, the first goal came not off a mistake but via a moment of brilliance as a shot from nowhere from well outside the area flew into the roof of the net, leaving keeper Daniel Trakman no chance.

Moments later, Jaffa went close to the leveller as his cross-come-shot from Jordan Simai’s lay off sailed just over the crossbar. It was in vain, however, as the home team found themselves two down as too much space was afforded to a visiting striker whose powerful drive inside the box found the bottom corner. Gilad Meyerowitz was displaying some stout defending despite the scores as several impressive challenges kept Ringwood at bay, whilst Josh Baruch was struggling to find the killer ball through but was working hard in tandem with Kadim and Ezra Joel to ignite his team’s charge.

The home team was struggling as Ringwood put in a third after a cut back was fired into the back of the net. It was increasingly looking like a tough day at the office for the young side as Maccabi’s confidence had hit rock bottom. Playmaker Malkinson was doing his best to inspire his teams’ charge he looked for Simai through the middle with the Sky Blues attacking on the counter, but it was a disappointing end to the half as the 4th came as the ball was coolly placed into the back of the net and the 5th made for a gloomy half time team talk as a low shot was dispatched just inside the post.

Down 5-0 at the break, the home side came out looking more invigorated but the 6th arrived minutes into the second period with an attacker gliding into the box and firing into the bottom corner. Yudi Vorchheimer was – despite his team’s situation - doing his best to spur his side onwards as he showed some superb technique to hold off chasing defenders, bursting away with pace through the middle.

Number 7 eventually came as the opposition attacker strode unchallenged in to the area before sweetly laying it off to a teammate to fire across his body and into the corner as the scoreboard misrepresented the fighting spirit shown by Maccabi as the game wore on. Taylor Segeal was linking up well with Vorchheimer and it was certainly encouraging to see Jaffa and Kadim trying their hardest however it was a case of too little, too late as the whistle went with Ringwood running away with a 7-0 win. Maccabi will look to next week where they can hope to improve upon the performance and hopefully play themselves into some form.
