Scoreboard and Upcoming Fixtures

SENIORS-FIRSTS  Round 5: Maccabi 8 – 0 MCC

Maccabi Hockey Club has made it two wins on the trot with an 8-0 thrashing of MCC at Albert Park on Sunday. The win for Maccabi was made more emphatic with five goals in the last fifteen minutes which was exactly what Maccabi deserved for its dominant performance. Alon Beder went close in the first minute of the game, but it took ten minutes for Maccabi to score its first goal. A wonderful team move starting with Lawrence Lifson and Kyles Hilton got the ball to Daniel Guttman on the baseline. Guttman squared it up to an unmarked Bryce Watson on the spot to put it past the keeper. Maccabi then wasted several short corners before it got its second on the board thanks to Beder’s first goal for the club, putting the ball in from close range after the MCC keeper saved an initial shot from Jarred Grek.

David Zwier scored his first goal for the club early in the second half, showing good awareness to pounce on another loose ball in the circle. Although Maccabi was on top, it was not creating scoring opportunities with as much ease as its dominance of possession suggested it should. That changed as the game went into the last fifteen minutes and Maccabi’s superior fitness began to show. Moves starting from defence, sweeping down the whole field yielded four more goals (two more for Beder to complete his hattrick, a second for Zwier and one for Guttman), and a last minute short corner deflection from Watson.

SENIORS-SECONDS   Round 5: Maccabi 1 – 7 Old Xaverians

The seconds lost 7-1 to Old Xaverians, with a goal to David Treger briefly giving Maccabi hope at 3-1 down. Paul Tremigliozzi was creative up forward while Hayden Aizicowitz (GK) and Josh Tremigliozzi were resolute in defense, however old Xaverians’ greater experience told in the end.

MASTERS   Round 5: Maccabi 2 – 0 Brunswick

TIn a very one sided game Maccabi defeated the lowly ranked Brunswick 2-0. The first half saw many wasted opportunities. The ball was bobbing around which made it difficult to trap. By the end of the first half it was 0-0. Great stops by Roma in goals kept the opposition at bay. Gavin Seclar was defiant down back as were his sidekicks Big Dave B and the "Principal" Andrew Berhang. Browny scored an easy goal while the goalie wasn't looking and the majestic acrobatic goal from Justin Baigel finished off the game.

Upcoming Fixtures:

Round 6: vs Essendon  23-May at 20:30 at Albert Park

Round 7: vs La Trobe Uni White 30-May at 19:30 at Albert Park

UNDER 16s   Round 3: Maccabi 0 – 1 Camberwell

In a high standard game our u16s were unlucky to go down to Camberwell Tangerine 1-0.
The game was fast paced and open with both teams able to bring the ball down the field and penetrate the circle. Our defence was solid and able to repel their attacks with Cooper in goals having a tremendous game. We were able to generate shots on goal but their defence was also resolute. Half way through the second half Camberwell scored with a lucky strike that went in off the edge of the side post. We kept on attacking but could not get the equaliser. A terrific effort from our kids considering we lost one of our key playmakers at half time.
Best players. C. Altman, R. Grunfeld, J.Fink, J. Samuels
