Run Ends For Mens Hockey Team

Posted: 10-Sep-2015 by Maccabi Hockey Club

Maccabi Hockey club has lost its preliminary final, going down 3-1 to Toorak East Malvern. The young Maccabi team had the better of the match but was unable to make its domination count as it failed to take its numerous goalscoring chances. Playing against the top of the ladder team, Maccabi got off to a fast start. A through ball down the right wing from Lawrence Lifson found Jordan Sandler in space. Sandler beat a TEM defender before squaring it to Jeremy Kaye who had worked hard to get to the penalty spot, Kaye took a touch and then buried the ball under the goalkeeper to give Maccabi the lead. TEM hit back straight away, equalising from a short corner before taking the lead with another short corner goal. Maccabi got onto the front foot again, putting TEM under the pump without being able to fashion a clear goal scoring chance to go to the break a goal down.

In the second half, Maccabi upped the intensity, spending the majority of the half in attack again. Jake Carp and Tyce Hilton caused the TEM defense loads of problems with their quick movement and sharp skills, to win a short corner. Lifson missed the first short corner, before squaring the next one to Kyles Hilton whose shot was saved. From the next short corner, Lifson’s shot hit a TEM defender’s foot on the goal line and a penalty stroke was awarded. Danny Grunfeld stepped up to take the stroke but his flick was saved by the left hand of the TEM goalkeeper. Orren Chabat and Ben Kaye were dominant in defense to keep the dangerous TEM attack away from the circle and provide a platform for the Maccabi attacks. The one time TEM did get through the defence, they won a short corner from which they doubled their lead. Despite going on the attack again, Maccabi was unable to peg back the TEM lead. The young Maccabi team put in a very strong performance, and looks to next season knowing that it has plenty of scope for improvement as its young team gains experience at the senior level.
