*KEY to types of rides and our colour code

BLACK RIDES
Riders who generally average 32kph+ on flats and regular hills.
Rides 2+ times a week.
GREY RIDES
Riders who generally average 30-32kph on flats and occasional hills.
Rides 1-2 times a week.
WHITE RIDES
Riders who generally average below 30kph on flats and once a year or never done hills.
Rides once a week.

'DROP RIDE' - (no longer used to describe a ride however it is explained below) A ‘drop ride’ means that other riders may go harder at certain points during the ride. These type of rides will only be on familiar ride circuits and generally will regroup at a designated point/coffee shop. e.g. If there is a ride to a less familiar place and further away, (such as St. Andrews) people will not be left behind. However, during the ride or on some climbs the group may become stretched out, but will have a point where they will regroup further ahead. Furthermore, if a St. Andrew’s ride is classified as a “Black Ride” and you are a beginner or have never done hills this would not be the ride of choice for you on that particular day. I hope that this description helps people understand the various rides that will be occasionally on offer.

NO Drop Ride’ - This is a term for a ride event where a nominated ride leader will ensure that nobody is left alone at the rear of the ride. This generally applies on ‘White’ or ‘Grey’ rides, but won’t be possible in all situations.

ORGANISED RIDE/EVENT - This is where the club will organise a specific ride for all members. Generally, it will cater for all three riding strength categories and possibly a supported ride (ie with vehicle support). There may be a few of these rides per year and the number and location will be influenced by member requests. For example, a Mansfield to Mt Buller ride or something similar  may be organised later in 2016.

This is just a guide and while there are obviously no enforced “rules” about participation in any ride these descriptions are proposed to help each group ride and ensure riders are riding with people of similar strength categories. It is also strongly encouraged that riders wear their club kit on club rides as it is safer, since it helps everyone keep an eye on all rides in the group.
