Coach of the Year!

Posted: 21-Aug-2017 by All Abilities

Alexia Keats, head swimming coach for Maccabi Swimming Club’s All Abilities program was last week named Coach of the Year at the Victorian Disability Sport and Recreation Awards.

Lexi is the head coach for the Maccabi Swimming Club’s All Abilities program and has received nothing but rave reviews since starting with the program. Her extensive knowledge encompasses not only with swimming technique but also teaching techniques to cater to participants with various intellectual and physical disabilities. She raises the bar with her expectations and nurturing and encouraging the swimmers to improve their skills week after week. She not only pushes the swimmer to see what they can achieve, but also makes sure that she personalises her training to every individual’s requirements.

Lexi has been vital in the development of the All Abilities swimming program, which runs alongside the mainstream club’s Sunday morning sessions. Along with the swimming committee, she’s helped establish the program as part of the club, and encourages swimmers to join in with the mainstream swimmers where appropriate.

Lexi’s ‘can do’ positive attitude is part of why parents have described her as “the best coach ever”. She goes the extra mile to not only understand every individual swimmer’s needs and strengths, but also what motivates them. She is a wonderful addition to the swimming program and the swimming club overall, with both parents and committee members describing her as committed, reliable, passionate, engaging and phenomenal. She injects a sense of fun into training and the fact that Sunday mornings are filled with laughter as well as laps means that the participates vote with their feet and don’t want to miss a week.

With a huge range of talent on show at the awards night and finalists representing local, state, national and international sport, it was tough competition all around with very worthy finalists.

The All Abilities Snappers train Sunday mornings at the Bialik College Gringlas Sports Centre. For more information or to organise a trial session contact
