AJAX FC demonstrates best practices in creating accessible facilities

Posted: 02-Mar-2015 by All Abilities

In a recent Council Meeting, Lauren Mandel (All Abilities Inclusion Coordinator) was delighted to hear about the tremendous efforts taken by the AJAX FC to cater for the needs of Rob Paterson. Paterson was recently appointed assistant senior coach and is wheelchair bound.

Rob Paterson has been wheelchair bound for almost 25 years and reports that he has coached for the majority of this time. For the last 20 years, Paterson has had experience in coaching five other football clubs.

He is entering into his first year with the AJAX football club and could not speak more highly of the committee members and players. Patterson reports "Of all of the clubs I have been with, this has been the most supportive. It shocked me that some of the other clubs never tried to make an effort with me after many years"

The AJAX Football Club committee lead by their President and Match exective, Ronnie Lewis, recently applied for a government grant for a stair lift at their Albert Park rooms. We are thrilled to hear that the government is fully funding this project, to make minor modifications to ensure the club rooms are fully accessible to all.
