Volunteer at the event

Belinda Jordon (Metro Access Officer) wishes to invite you to volunteer at the event.

Please see a message from Belinda below:

"I have organised a gardening activity stall for this event. Children will be able to pot a seed into a little pot and decorate a carry bag to take home with them. An external person from the Sage Garden is running the actual garden activity and providing the materials. I am looking for people with disabilities who would like to volunteer on the day to help run the activity and interact with the children and families who come to the stall.

I will be on the stall all day and am happy to have 2- 3 people there at a time with me. The event runs from 10-4, so people could come for one hour or several hours depending on their interests and capacity.

Ideally, the volunteers will need minimal supervision/instruction to engage in the activity and with the children. If someone needs 1:1 or fairly constant support, they would need to come with their own carer as I don’t feel I can provide this level of support safely, or that they will be safe if I have to leave the stall briefly (e.g. to find volunteers, or escorting to the toilets etc).

There will be a drop-off parking area off Maple Street where people can be dropped off and my tent/stall will be right near there. The traffic warden and area control person from council will be aware that I will be expecting volunteers throughout the day and can assist people to find me, or come and let me know if someone has arrived.

If transport is an issue, I may be able to secure some taxi vouchers to ensure those really keen to come don’t miss out.  For those people not interested in volunteering, the event is still worth a look around- lots of activities, food etc.

I already have 2 volunteers coming at 10am for a few hours, but it would be great to have some more for later in the day. It is forecast to be 33 degrees on Sunday, but we will be in the shade of a marquee and drinking water and sunscreen will be supplied.

Many thanks."
