All Abilities Walking Group, Term 1 2015

The All Abilities walking group has been extremely successful and will continue in 2015. We are now seeking expression of interest for term 1. Please see the flyer below for more information.

About the All Abilities Walking Group

Maccabi Victoria All Abilities and Jewish Care have teamed up with the support of the Bnei Brith Ramblers and the Heart Foundation to offer a regular walking group for All Abilities, Jewish people with disabilities aged 8 years and up.

The pilot program has been offered to 12 participants supported by 6 volunteers, for a 5 week period over October-December 2014. It has proven to be an extremely successful initiative and will continue to run in term 1, 2015. See the flyer above for more information. We hope to get this program embedded into the Maccabi mainstream Athletics Club and to have the team enter into a walkathon event later in the year.

The program was months in the making, with a great deal of support from the Bnei Brith Ramblers in the planning process. Michael Adler and Vardit Sacks-Davis regularly attended meetings with Maccabi Victoria and Jewish Care, providing advice and support, particularly in terms of the structure of the program.

The walk takes place on Sunday afternoons, at 4.30-5.30pm from the Jewish Care Mander Villas facility on Glen Eira Road, and involves going for 45-60 minute walks around the local streets of Caulfield and visiting Harleston Park and Hopetoun Gardens.

The program aligns with the Heart Foundation Walking program, who have provided organisers with various resources. The group was very excited to receive merchandise from the Heart Foundation, including t-shirts, hats and a water bottle. These items are worn at all walks, enabling the group to be visible in the community as a team.
