Swimathon Success!

Posted: 02-Dec-2014 by All Abilities

On Sunday 30th December, 24 enthusiastic swimmers joined the 'All Abilities' team and swam at Bialik College as part of the Maccabi National Swimathon. This included three of our All Abilities members, their friends, family and members of the community. This team was therefore particularly special as it was open to everyone regardless of ability, and aimed to promote inclusion and tolerance. This annual event involves a 12 hour swimathon and is a fun team event raising money for people living with Multiple Sclerosis.

We are overjoyed with excitement by the incredible support that our community has shown for this event. The All Abilities team has raised over $9000, just off our target of $10,000. We are still asking friends, family and the community to dig deep and help us reach our final target by visiting our team page and making a contribution.

A fun way to get fit, have fun and raise money for a good cause! (L-R: Joshua Kaplan, Daniel Kitay, Phillip Wein and Noah Warren)

The Maccabi Swimming Club has generously offered to donate 40% of the 'All Abilities' team funds to Maccabi Victoria All Abilities, to continue to enable Jewish people with disabilities to participate in sport and recreation within the mainstream clubs.

We thank the Maccabi Swimming Club, including Geoff Sandler (President), Clive Aarons (Committee Member) and Nikki Burger (Club Member) for their incredible support for the Maccabi Victoria All Abilities program. These indiviudals have helped to support all abilities members becoming included within the mainstream swimathon and have also planned the two-week come'n'try swimming event on 7th and 14th of December.

We are so proud of our Maccabi Victoria All Abilities members Zalman Feiglin and Zac Chester for participating in the swim and to David Chester for continuing to show his support for our programs. Well done!

We look forward to continuing to work with the Swimming Club to create more opportunities for people with disabilities to get in the water and go for a swim.
