Maccabi Athletics 58th AGM

Posted: 27-May-2019 by Athletics

We had a great turnout of over 60 members, family, friends and guests at the Maccabi Athletic Club AGM and Awards last night at the Duncan Mackinnon Social room.

Special presentations were made by Jemima Montag, who spoke about the forthcoming World Athletics Championships and her preparation for the event, and Simone Cohen, the General Manager of the Australian team for the 2021 Maccabiah Games.

The club is keen to encourage our members to aim for Maccabiah Games selection – and together with the organising committee, will publish, over the next 2 months, the qualifying standards for track and field and the road race events (1/2 marathon and 10K).

The patron’s trophy, sponsored by the Sonenberg family in memory of Phil Opas, past Patron of the club and a great supporter of Jewish Athletics  – for best club athlete, went to Ori Drabkin. Ori won the Australian under 16 multi class 100m title at the recent Australian Championships – as well as many gold medals at state competition.

Below are photos from last night's event.

We also saw a fantastic video produced by Marc Blecher about the year that was. It has been added to the club's brand new YouTube channel. Please subscribe and send through videos of club athletes so that we can share them with everyone.

Following is a full list of all award winners and their acheivements through the athletics year:
