Winners of the 2017 Awards include Rhythmic Gymnast and Commonwealth Games medallist Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva and recently retired international cricketer Michael Klinger.

In its fifth year, the Maccabi Australia Rudi Roth scholarship will be awarded to an emerging athlete.  Rudi had a long-time involvement with Maccabi and was a passionate squash player, also coaching and founding a number of squash clubs in both Sydney and Melbourne. He established the Rudi Roth Maccabi Australia Scholarship Fund to offer exceptional young athletes assistance in reaching their goals. Last year’s winner was International Cyclist Riley Hart, whose future goal includes attending the 2020 Olympic Games.

This is the second year of the Nachum Buch Scholarship which seeks to recognise swimmers and assist them on the path to achieving at the elite level.  Last year the award had 2 worthy winners.  Matt Levy who represented Australia at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games winning a Gold Medal and Benno Negri who recently competed at the Singapore Open and won a Gold and Silver Medal.

Maccabi Australia President, Jeff Sher noted, “the quality of Jewish athletes continues to rise each year and we look forward to another year with an exceptional calibre of nominees.”
