Interstate Challenge Wrap!

Posted: 12-Jun-2018 by Junior Football (Maccabi Hakoah Junior Football Club)

The 40th Anniversary NSW v VIC Challenge Cup was a tremendous success for Jewish Football in NSW and Victoria.

Teams from North Caulfield Maccabi Football Club travelled to Sydney to compete against Maccabi NSW, a representative team from Northside Maccabi and Invitational Teams from Hakaoh from the ages of 9 - 15 years old.

In excess of 320 players came together in Sydney over the June Long Weekend under the Maccabi banner to compete for the Challenge Cup. The teams competed hard for the Challenge Cup with NCMFC running away with the Trophy winning every game except one draw. The competition was keenly contested with new friendships made both on and off the field. The NCMFC U10, U11, U12 Colts, U14 Colts and U15 teams were undefeated in the Challenge Cup, however the Hakoah U15 boys showed their class in the invitational match against the NCMFC U15's with a resounding victory.

The event was hosted by NSW Maccabi Junior FC, and without the efforts of all the volunteers and managers from both clubs, the weekend would not have run so smoothly. The Organising Committee of Ofer Greeberg, Paul Platus and Mick Vasin were inundated with positive feedback from players and parents alike and all look forward to the next tournament.

The weekend's success and positivity around the competition and involvement of so many teams and age groups ensures that this event will continue with Melbourne hosting the next Challenge Cup in 2019.
