Maccabi capped a successful start to the inaugural F-league season by going through the first weekend of the competition undefeated.
Held at the Windsor Indoor Sports Centre, the competition contained of some of the finest futsal talent from across the country. Maccabi took maximum points from day 1 with strong victories over the Victorian team St Albion’s, ACT’s Boomerangs side, and local NSW side Parramatta Blues.
Sunday’s matches were a different story, with the side walking away with two draws. Against the tournament heavyweights Dural Warriors from NSW, containing no less that five Futsalroo players, a tough 5-5 draw was played out.
In an end-to-end exciting game, both teams had their chances to win, and coach Steve Knight was complimentary of an outstanding exercise by his side. In the final game of the weekend Maccabi’s tiredness and fatigue showed as they relinquished a three-goal lead to the Victorian Side Inner City Futsal led by the formidable and skilled Futsalroo Fernando de Moraes.
Football NSW were impressed with the club's display, reporting: "Maccabi Hakoah coach Steven Knight would be happy with his side's performance on day two with 5 goals coming via the way of various dead ball situations. The work on the training pitch has clearly paid dividends and with Captain Doron Pozniak due back from injury they will continue to be hard to beat."
Maccabi sit in second place to the Dural Warriors on goal difference, with Maccabi sportsman of the year Jordan Mundell and NZ league golden boot winner Jarrod Basger, heading the goal scoring charts.
