National Swimathon a HUGE success - BIG thanks

Posted: 20-Dec-2013 by Maccabi National

Dear Maccabi National Swimathon participants,

On behalf of Maccabi and Multiple Sclerosis Australia, we would like to say a huge thank-you for your inspirational performance in this year’s Swimathon and for helping raise over $28,000!

Here are the vital statistics on this year’s event:

• For the first time, our swimathon was held in four cities, with Brisbane joining Melbourne, Sydney and Perth
• We had 10 teams and a total of 151 participants
• We raised just over $28,000, a fantastic effort! The funds will be shared by MS Australia and Maccabi
• In total, we swam over 390km in 12 hours
• The award for the greatest distance swum goes to the Melbourne-based Maccabi Young & Restless/MH20 team which covered 50.1km
• Once again the Schleppers team from Melbourne, under Jeff Sher’s leadership, were the top fundraisers, raising over $9,000

We would like to thank everyone who was involved in making this year’s event another huge success:

• Bronte Trieger, who single-handedly got the event off the ground in Brisbane
• Malcolm Levin, Trevor Wainstein and Joan Hillman in Perth
• Mick Vasin and the Maccabi Swimming Club committee (Bronwyn Elbourne, Anthony Goodridge and David Cohen) in Sydney
• Nikki Burger, Simone Starikov and Peter Bloom for their support in the overall organisation of the event
• Kristin Paton and her team at MS Australia for the use of their software and for supporting our fundraising activities
• Each of the team captains for recruiting, motivating and organising their respective teams
• And finally, a special thanks to Bialik College in Melbourne, Moriah College in Sydney and the Jewish Community Centre in Brisbane for very generously making available their pools for this event

On behalf of both organisations, our sincere thanks to you for your hard work and to the hundreds of donors who generously supported the event!
