A special treat awaited Australia’s delegation to the Maccabi Pan-American Games on their first full day in Mexico City.

The record-sized group were honoured to be invited to the residence of the Aussie ambassador to Mexico for a lunch outing that surely made them feel right at home.

With the ambassador away on holidays, Charge d’Affaires Estelle Parker welcomed the green and gold to the stunning home with open arms. The acting ambassador even donned a Team Aus hat as she threw her full sport behind the squad.

“In the three years since I’ve been here in Mexico working at the Australian embassy we have never had this many Aussies at one time at the residence,” Parker said.

“It’s really special. For me it’s kind of bringing that culture of Australian sport to Mexico and Latin America that I think really shows Australian camaraderie, teamwork and the integrity and the manner in which they compete is really wonderful.

“Hearing all of the accents today, seeing how everyone is interacting, seeing the diversity in the age range of the team members has been really inspiring.”

The acting ambassador was the perfect host as she engaged with members of the team and mingled with a range of different personalities.

Parker is backing Team Aus to come up with the goods in competition.

“You’re looking committed,” she said.

“I think everybody looks ready, enthusiastic and pumped. I think we’re going to bring home some medals!”
