Preview: Junior Boys Basketball

They may come from a vast variety of schools and even live in different cities, but Australia’s junior basketballers are one well-oiled unit.

The 11-strong squad hail from across Sydney and Melbourne and are ready to take to take on the world at the Maccabi Pan-American Games in Mexico City after seven long months of preparation.

Coached by Greg Shapiro, this tight knit group of boys have developed a strong camaraderie after a number of training sessions held across both cities. They’ve enjoyed billeting at each other’s houses and have gelled amazingly well as a team.

Four of their stars play their basketball in New South Wales and Victoria metro leagues and recently competed at the Nunawading Queens Birthday weekend tournament. Each member of the quartet made it all the way to the grand final.

These rising Maccabi basketball prodigies are looking forward to strutting their stuff in Mexico.
